Laurent Ottoz lived in the Aosta Valley at the end of the 19th century. In 1875, still a child, he emigrated to France, where he first started working in a distillery and later founded the Café des Alpins in Marseille.

His interest in liqueurs reached its peak when he returned to Aosta and here, at the beginning of the 1900s, he began to produce the Alpine Liqueur Elixir Génépy, which soon became famous throughout Italy.

In 2005, the Ottoz liqueur brand was acquired by the St. Roch distilleries in Quart, in Valle d'Aosta; today, together with Levi Distillati, Ottoz du Val d'Aoste represents one of the leading brands of the Aosta Valley distillery.

The Ottoz distillery, a brand of the Saint-Roch distilleries in Aosta, produces a variety of distillates and liqueurs:

  • Ebo Lebo amaro: Infusion based on saffron and génépy seedlings, mixed with extracts of alpine herbs, water, alcohol and sugar, this amaro boasts medicinal herbs produced locally, by the Rosset Terroir farm.
  • Gin 8Z: London dry gin based on Alpine and Mediterranean botanical herbs. In detail, thyme, sage, edelweiss, mint, genepy, juniper, lemon and coriander.
  • Elixir genepy centenary: liqueur based on Artemisia Genipi (male Génépy), made in 2020 on the occasion of the centenary celebrations of Ottoz du Val d'Aoste. Other génépy produced by Ottoz are the Elixir Génépy Classique, the Elixir Génépy Haute Montagne and the Elixir Génépy Sans Colorant.
  • Grappas: Ottoz is known for the production of numerous grappas, including Grappa de la Brenva, Grappa du Glacier, Grappa de Bathezar, Grappa Laurent Ottoz, obtained from an infusion of genepy, white and red pomace or from a selection of the best Aosta Valley pomace.

Ebo Lebo Ottoz - The Ebo Lebo bitter appreciated all over the world

Ebo Lebo Ottoz is one of the most famous liqueurs of the Ottoz brand. It is a amaro, produced according to an ancient herbal recipe, revisited with the addition of saffron and genepy seedlings grown in the Aosta Valley. Ideal as a digestive after a meal, it is characterized by the intense aroma of alpine herbs and saffron, as well as by its bitter taste.

In 2020 Ebo Lebo Ottoz was awarded the prestigious recognition of "Best Italian amaro" and "Best amaro in the world" at the World Liqueur Award.
